The Wedding Ringer (2015) Synopsis: Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) provides best man services for guys who don’t have the friends necessary for a wedding. The Wedding Ringer 2015 As Doug Harris (Josh Gad), a successful tax attorney, and his fiancee Gretchen Palmer (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) are planning for their wedding day, Doug becomes frantic searching for a best man. The Wedding Ringer 2015 He faints and is referred to Jimmy’s company, The Best Man Inc., by his party planner, Edmundo (Ignacio Serricchio).

Doug is sent to The Best Man Inc., by Otis (Corey Holcomb), which is located under an amusement park. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug meets Jimmy and asks him to pull off a “Golden Tux” (seven groomsmen) to match with Gretchen’s bridesmaids, which has never been done before. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy refuses, claiming he is complacent and doesn’t need the pressure. The Wedding Ringer 2015 After hearing Doug’s plea, Jimmy agrees to be his best man along with a payment of $50,000 and all expenses paid. The Wedding Ringer 2015 When going over the formalities for the wedding, Doug tells Jimmy his name is Bic Mitchum.

Jimmy recruits some former friends. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Fitzgibbons (Colin Kane), a criminal who escaped from a federal prison, agrees to be a groomsman because there will be seven bridesmaids to hit on. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Next, he recruits Lurch (Jorge Garcia), a plumber, who agrees to get away from his nagging wife. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Lastly, he recruits Reggie (Affion Crockett), an airline security agent, who agrees because there will be good food. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy, his secretary Doris (Jenifer Lewis), Fitzgibbons, Lurch, and Reggie interview people willing to fill the four remaining spots based on their “party trick distractions.” They choose Kip (Alan Ritchson), a sexy man with a stutter, Endo (Aaron Takahashi), who has three testicles, Bronstein (Dan Gill), who can dislocate and relocate his shoulder, and Otis, who can say every sentence backwards.

Doug, excited, tells Gretchen that “Bic” flew in from El Salvador, and he will be at the wedding. The Wedding Ringer 2015 He also presents to her two honeymoon tickets to Tahiti. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Gretchen insists that Bic comes to the family brunch. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug meets Jimmy and they memorize their identities. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug also tells Jimmy that he must act as a military priest from North Dakota.

At the brunch Gretchen’s father Ed (Ken Howard) asks Jimmy what part of North Dakota he’s from. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug becomes nervous and almost blows his own cover until Jimmy accidentally sets Grandma (Cloris Leachman) on fire. The Wedding Ringer 2015 They take her to the emergency room, and Jimmy makes up a lie to Ed that Doug used to play football. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Ed challenges Jimmy and Doug to a football game with some of his old college teammates who will be at the wedding.

Doug meets his groomsmen, who he is initially not fond of. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doris gives all of them fake identities, all of which share the last names of famous Los Angeles sports figures (Plunkett, Rambis, Garvey, Alzado, Drysdale, Carew, and Dickerson) which they have to memorize. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy takes the groomsmen on fake photo shoots of skydiving, scuba-diving, bowling, running a marathon, and climbing mountains. The Wedding Ringer 2015 As Jimmy realizes Doug is beginning to doubt him, he is taken to Edmundo’s house. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug learns Edmundo’s flamboyant personality is just a ruse for better business. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Edmundo tells him that the only key is to please Gretchen and her mother Lois (Mimi Rogers) and nothing else matters. The Wedding Ringer 2015 To prove to Doug how good he is at being a best man, Jimmy takes Doug to a wedding where the best man (Josh Peck) makes a terrible speech. The Wedding Ringer 2015 After, they have drinks and show off their dance moves. The Wedding Ringer 2015 The two drink after the wedding and talk. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy said he made an excellent best man speech for a minor friend which led to his career as a wedding ringer. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug said that his father was an international tax attorney and moved frequently as a child, so he never got to make friends. The Wedding Ringer 2015 He also tells Jimmy he’s never been on a “guy trip” and just wants a friend to “sit down and have a beer with.” When his parents died, Doug took over the business, and work consumed him, leaving him without a best man. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy drives Doug home, and reiterates that they are in a business relationship, and Doug, although hurt, agrees.

Jimmy, thinking about what Doug said, is reminded by Doris why he started his business in the first place. The Wedding Ringer 2015 She tells Jimmy he needs a real friend for himself, and he is motivated to pull off the rest of the wedding.

The next day, Doug is captured by Reggie and Fitzgibbons and taken to his outrageous bachelor party. The Wedding Ringer 2015 He is introduced to Nadia (Nicky Whelan), who tries to seduce him. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug instead befriends her and she later puts peanut butter on his genitals. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug, who is blindfolded, is unaware that Jimmy and Nadia have a basset hound to lick off the peanut butter. The Wedding Ringer 2015 When the prank goes awry, the groomsmen and Nadia race to the hospital and evade a cop chase. The Wedding Ringer 2015 When Doug wakes up the next day, Nadia kisses him goodbye, and hints she would like to know him better. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Later, the groomsmen play football with Ed and his college football friends, including Joe Namath, John Riggins, and Ed “Too Tall” Jones. The Wedding Ringer 2015 A mud bowl ensues and Ed blows out his knee on the last play.

At the rehearsal dinner that night, Gretchen’s bridesmaids sing a song, while Doug’s groomsmen create a slideshow of the fake pictures they previously took, winning Gretchen over. The Wedding Ringer 2015 That night, Gretchen, speaking to Doug, notices Bic razors and Mitchum deodarant in their cabinets. The Wedding Ringer 2015 She recognizes the familiarity in the last names of the groomsmen and deduces the scheme. The Wedding Ringer 2015 She asks Doug about it but he brushes it off, saying Gretchen is paranoid, to which she reluctantly agrees.

On the day of the wedding, the family priest cancels and is replaced by Jimmy’s old Catholic school principal. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug hatches an idea where Reggie and Fitzgibbons kidnap the priest and Jimmy officiates the wedding as Bic Mitchum. The Wedding Ringer 2015 The wedding reception is initially successful. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy passes Gretchen and congratulates her on the wedding. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Gretchen exclaims that the wedding is a disaster because her grandmother has third degree burns, her dad’s knee is blown out, the food is bad, the bridesmaids are not attracted to the groomsmen, the zipper on her dress is broken, and she isn’t marrying the man she loves. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Gretchen confesses to Jimmy she only married Doug because she was tired of having bad relationships and he can easily provide the lavish lifestyle she wants. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug overhears this in the bathroom and tells Jimmy that he can’t go through with the rest of the wedding. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy dismisses Doug’s ideas and makes the best man speech. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Before Jimmy wraps up his best man speech, Doug stops it and reveals he and Gretchen aren’t married since “Bic” is not a real priest. The Wedding Ringer 2015 He also tells everyone that his groomsmen are fake. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Jimmy, Doug, and the groomsmen try to escape. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Before doing so, Jimmy asks Gretchen’s sister, Allison (Olivia Thirlby) on a date, which she accepts. The Wedding Ringer 2015 Doug pays Jimmy his $50,000 like he promised and they accept each other’s friendship. The Wedding Ringer 2015 As they leave, Jimmy has an idea.

They use Doug’s first class honeymoon tickets to Tahiti, taking him on a guy trip where the groomsmen, Edmundo, Doris, and Nadia, who begins her romance with Doug, party in the plane, while Lurch says that he “has a bad feeling about this flight.”

In a scene at the end of the credits, Jimmy and Doug are seen playing a painful game of tennis.

  1. Nunya Biznis from US says:

There’s honestly not much more to say on this movie. It did exactlywhat it seems it set out to do- make people laugh and have them walkaway with the warm fuzzies.

The characters have great chemistry on screen, especially Kevin Hartand Josh Gad. The plot is pretty easy to predict, but there are still afew surprises on how some points are executed. There are some greatlaugh-out-loud moments, even with a couple of cringe-worthy ones (wasthe view of what the dog chomped on really needed?).

All in all, I had a good time watching it. I kind of wish I had waitedto see it in the $2 theater, but I’d watch it again if given thechance.

  2. James Summers from United Kingdom says:

I’m not a massive fan of modern comedies. I’m a traditional comedy guy,and my favourite comedies are things such as Planes, Trains &Automobiles and Dumb & Dumber. Comedies with a bit of heart and notjust cracking gags for the sake of it, meaning it comes off desperateor just over the top.

Luckily, this movie was really surprising, as it made me laugh onseveral occasions. Kevin Hart is a funny guy, and Josh Gad does adecent job too. Think it made me laugh more to hear Olaf swearing.

I watched this on the off chance, as I had nothing else to watch so Iput it on, and it did grab my attention. Most comedies are justbackground movies when I’m doing something, but I focused on this as Ienjoyed it. There seemed to be a heart to this film, and the comedicbits were choreographed a lot better than many other movies boast. Yesit was clichéd, yes it was typical Hollywood, but to be honest, as longas it makes you laugh, that’s all that matters. None of the laughsseemed forced, and don’t get me wrong it wasn’t perfect, but it didgive me enjoyment for an hour and a half.

Kevin Harts best movie without doubt, much better than Get Hard.

  3. wilson trivino from United States says:

A comedy starring Kevin Hart, The Wedding Ringer is a tale of a JimmyCallahan (Kevin Hart) who has a business that help grooms survive thewedding process. In this case Doug Harris (Josh Gad) has found thewoman of his dreams. He just has to give her the fairy tale ending shedeserves. In comes Bic (Kevin Hart) to save the day (for a small fee)and allow the couple to live happily ever after. A silly funny filmthat makes for a good laugh and realize the silliness of puttingneedless pressures on a big day in a man and woman’s life. A perfectmovie for those days you want to have a big laugh. I enjoyed it andcan’t wait for my wedding day.

  4. 3xHCCH from Quezon City, Philippines says:

Doug is a nerdy introvert who is about to get married to a beautifulgirl Gretchen. However, with two weeks to go before their grandwedding, Doug still could not come up with a Best Men and sixgroomsmen. Enter the smooth-talking hustler Jimmy who runs a Best Manfor rent business to provide what Doug so desperately needed: a bestfriend. The spoofy title comes from the traditional Best Man duty ofbringing the wedding rings during the ceremony.

Many wedding comedies would be about the bride, like “My Best Friend’sWedding” or “Bride Wars.” There have been movies about the parents, like “Father of the Bride” or “Mother of the Bride”. There have beenbeen movies about the “The Wedding Planner” or “The Wedding Singer’ oreven “Wedding Crashers.’ More recently, there had films about membersof the entourage of either gender, “The Hangover” and “Bridesmaids.” Asa point of distinction, “The Wedding Ringer” is an uncommon weddingcomedy made from the point of view of the groom.

Josh Gad is well-cast as the shy and socially-inept groom-to-be Doug. With his chubby frame, smiling face and polite demeanor, it is not hardto rally behind him and root him on. It is not really hard to conceivehow a significant number of men could face the problems as Doug, nothaving male friends close enough to call a best man or groomsmen. He iseasy for the audience to identify with.

Kevin Hart is a natural to play the boisterous and gregarious Jimmy, who had to fit in all the tall tales that Doug told Gretchen about hisimaginary “best friend” dubiously named Bic. Despite his character’sfilthy mouth prone to profanity, Hart still manages to be funny andengaging in a potentially annoying role.

The other actors portraying the “groomsmen” were a rowdy random bunchof the strangest types of men. They were hit and miss in their jokes, many times coming off as too cringe-worthy. Easily recognizable amongthem is hefty, long-haired Jorge Garcia. The very final scene is even awell- placed reference to Garcia’s most famous role on the hit TVthriller series “Lost.”

As the bride Gretchen, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting basically reprises herbreakthrough role as a sexy but flaky girl in an unlikely relationshipwith a nerd on hit TV comedy series “Big Bang Theory”. More positivelyimpressive is Olivia Thirlby as Gretchen’s younger sister Alison. Ms.Thirlby is very pretty and smart, making a mark despite her limitedscreen time.

Overall, “The Wedding Ringer,” with all its derivative, shallow andraunchy humor, still manages to come across with some insightful ideasabout male friendships and its intricacies. The lead pair of Josh Gadand Kevin Hart share a vibrant bromantic comic chemistry together thatis a lot of fun to watch. Looking forward to watching more filmprojects starring these two upcoming young comedians. 6/10.

  5. Screen_Blitz from United States says:

Josh Gad and Kevin Hart bring the laughs out in this hysterical buddycomedy. Josh Gad plays Doug Harris, who is two weeks away from gettingmarried to his beloved fiancée, Gretchen Palmer. However, Doug doesn’thave any close friends to attend his wedding. He hires Jimmy Callahan, played by Kevin Hart, to provide best men to attend his wedding. As thedays approach, an unexpected friendship develops between Doug andJimmy, and wild nights of hysteria ensues. This is one of the funniestR-rated comedies I’ve seen since 22 Jump Street, which was last summer. Its funny, hysterical, and sure had me laughing frequently.

Kevin Hart has been one of the funniest actors in Hollywood. I wasquite surprised to see Josh Gad doing a comedy. I have only known himdoing the voice of Olaf in Disney’s Frozen, and playing Steve Wozniakin the biopic drama Jobs, which was a critical failure. I alsosurprised by the comedic chemistry him and Kevin Hart brought in thismovie. The dance during the wedding reception scene with these two waseasily one of the most laugh-inducing scenes in the film. The scenetaking place a the bachelor with the dog was a bit crude, but Icouldn’t help laugh. Kevin Hart also delivers some of the funniestdialogue in many scenes. Sure, there are some scenes that were a bitpredictable, but they still manage to be entertaining.

Overall, this movie didn’t disappoint me very much. It was very funnyand entertaining. If you are a Kevin Hart fan, this movie is a goodchoice. Be cautious, there are a few nude scenes but don’t let themturn you away.

  6. Tony Heck (cosmo_tiger@hotmail) from United States says:

“God created the world in seven days. We gotta do a whole lot more in alot less time.” Doug Harris (Gad) is getting married but has a problem.Doug doesn’t have any friends and needs groomsmen. When he is toldabout Jimmy (Hart) he thinks he found his solution. The more the twoget to know each other the more they find out about themselves. I was alittle leery about this movie. The previews made it seem funny enoughand I really like Josh Gad, but Kevin Hart can sometimes get a littletoo annoying for me. This is an exception. Hart played it almostperfect and I never once felt like he was too over the top or annoyinglike in Ride Along. I laughed much more than I was expecting to at thisand there is enough types of humor for everyone to find something theywill like. There is also enough heart and story in this to keep youinterested in what is happening and not just waiting for the next joke.Me and my wife both liked this more than we expected too and this isone of the better comedies to come out in a while. Overall, nothing allthat original and pretty predictable but it was very funny and when yourent a comedy that is what you are looking for. To me this is KevinHart’s best movie I have seen. I give this a B+.

  7. MovieLord23 from San Antonio says:

Sometimes a comedy doesn’t need to do much to win someone like myselfover. All a comedy needs is some actors with chemistry, amusing jokes, and a story that can hold my attention and I can be willing to forgiveits flaws. The Wedding Ringer doesn’t re-invent the wheel, but Icertainly had a good time watching it spin.

Good: What propels this movie into watchable fluff is the cast. JoshGad and Kevin Hart have good chemistry together and they shine in theirscenes. They even make scenes that usually have me rolling my eyes likea dance scene in the middle of the movie into something fun. Thesupporting cast is funny within their stereotypes and it moves at agood pace.

Bad: The movie is very predictable. Every single beat is telegraphedtwo years in advanced and it doesn’t sway away from it. The humor isalso very sporadic throughout the movie when it came to the laughs.

Overall, it’s not a bad movie. It is a good one to watch when you arebored at home. Entertaining comedy which in itself is a successconsidering some of the other movies that were released the last fewmonths.

  8. LenaS15 from Sweden says:

I haven’t laughed this much watching a movie in a very long time. Itwas truly a entertaining movie filled with laughter and comedy. A verypositive and fun movie that will leave you with a big smile on yourlips.I totally recommend this movie to anyone. Kevin Hart was great inhis role, so was Josh Gad as well. I didn’t expect this movie to beTHIS good and funny. Loved every scene in this movie and each characterin this movie was super hilarious. The only thing i can think of thatwasn’t that great was actually Kaley Cuoco-Sweetings acting, she was abit annoying in this movie. But it doesn’t matter everything else isperfect. You will not get disappointed in watching this movie, it willleave you with a big big smile on your lips.

I really wanted to like this movie, mainly because I think Kevin Harthas had a rough few years. Not financially of course; the guy has beenstarring in more than a few comedies the past couple years, butcritically, none of them (Ride Along, Get Hard, About Last Night) canbe called a genuinely great movie. The Wedding Ringer is the best ofthe bunch, though. This is Kevin Hart in his element – his most dynamicperformance and playing a Hitch-style role where he gets hired to bepeople’s best mans for guys who don’t have any friends. Josh Gad playsthe loser character, and he and Hart have great chemistry and some veryfunny back and forth moments. I was actually surprised at how much Iwas enjoying this movie for the first half, but then the problemsbecame too glaring to ignore.

The premise feels fresh and fun in the beginning. It felt like a crossbetween Wedding Crashers and I Love You, Man without directly copyingeither of them. The problem is, those movies had more character depthbeyond their two leads. Here, every character besides Hart and Gad arecardboard cutouts. The biggest offender is Paige, played by KaleyCuoco. She is the most shallow caricature of a woman I’ve seen incomedy in a long long time. It’s a shame because Kaley does what shecan, but her character is so one-dimensional you can’t even connectwith her on any level. The random groomsman have their moments, butthey’re still only caricatures. There’s the buff guy, the fresh out ofprison rapist, the guy who likes pulling out his penis, the sociallyawkward guy, etc. They may have defining traits, but not one of themfeels like a fleshed out character.

Structure is another problem in this movie because after an excellentsetup, it starts going down the list of the same tropes and beats asevery other zany wedding comedy. Competitive family football scene?Check. Guy finding out girl is actually a bitch? Check. Guy andemployer who have a strictly business relationship actually becomefriends in the end? Check. It’s a shame because when Kevin Hart isgiven a chance to shine, he shines. But those moments become less andless often as the movie tries to tie itself neatly with a bow in thethird act.

The Wedding Ringer is good for a few laughs, but in the end it’s justanother Kevin Hart comedy that had potential but didn’t explore it. Theman has proved himself to be a comedic force to be reckoned with. Nowit’s just a waiting game until he finds a script that fully plays tohis strengths. Until then, The Wedding Ringer seems to be the one tobeat, and as far as raunchy comedies go, you could do a lot worse.

  10. Python Hyena from Canada says:

The Wedding Ringer (2015): Dir: Jeremy Garelick / Cast: Kevin Hart,Josh Gad, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Ken Howard, Cloris Leachman: Dreadfullaugh-lacking comedy about being true to oneself, and if viewers weretrue to themselves, they would avoid the real ringer, which is thisfilm. It stars Josh Gad, a tax attorney engaged to be married to apompous spoiled bitch, played by Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting. After realizingthat his social life is lacking and friends are non existent, he is putin touch with an organization called Best Man Inc. He meets Kevin Hartwhom will go under the name Bic Mitchum, and will entered Gad’s life ashis best friend meeting his fiancé and family putting on a totalcharade. He even enlists a group of misfits to pose as the friends henever had. These are nerdy types with one joke actions. Director JeremyGarelick seems at a loss when it comes to the height of basset hound.During a bachelor party Gad is bound and blindfolded while standing upthen a female dabs his genitals with peanut butter. If this wasn’t badenough this dog apparently licks the peanut butter off screen despitethe height disadvantage. Gad is the target of stupid jokes beforerealizing that his lady love isn’t what he thought. Hart is playing uphis manic comic typecasting. We know that the truth will emerge, Cuocowill be seen as snide brat, and Hart and Gad will become buddies. Inwasted cameos are Ken Howard as the bride’s bullying father, and ClorisLeachman as granny who is set on fire. Theme could have addressedmarriage readiness, male bonding, or being true to oneself. Instead itthrows a ringer that earns it a place in a dumpster. Score: 1 / 10
